Weekends go by way too quick in college. It seems like on Friday and Saturday all I'm doing is having fun and sleeping. Before I know it, it's Sunday and I have a ton of homework to do. I should really manage my time better on the weekends and maybe I would get this blog done a lot earlier.
Well the winter Olympics in Vancouver are going on now and I have seen quite a few people watching it in my dorms. I find that the Olympics have some weird sports in it that makes me wonder how someone gets into a sport like that. Maybe it's just because they weren't good at any other sports. For instance, the biathlon is a weird combination with guns and skiing, which seems pretty cool. I'm not saying it's stupid, but that I haven't heard of it until recently and it seems odd that someone would train their whole life for the biathlon instead of football or soccer. I actually enjoy watching the bobsledding, ice skating, speed skating, and snowboarding. The Olympics are cool because it is one of the only times all countries get along. Sports really bring people together. Like at the end of an Olympic event, everyone, whether they won or lost, are congratulating each other on their performance. Two countries at war would have their participants shake hands after the events. But I don't think anything like what Michael Phelps did will happen for a while. Although, I find the World Cup the most exciting sports event whenever in comes up and it's going to be here in June. We also have a United States team that could become the underdog team that goes far this year, as long as Davies gets healthy.
I was also looking earlier at the Grammy winners this year and it made me realize what a crappy year of music it has been. Taylor Swift won best album with only mediocre reviews. I know a lot of people like her and she is very popular but come on. I don't like how the most popular artists now are Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers, and Taylor Swift. I guess it doesn't matter as long as I get the music I like.

My friends and I were discussing the exact same thing in regards to the weird sports. It's still awesome to see some crazy things that happen there, we all loved the long ski jump. I don't think that the US will go very far in the world cup though, sorry. England's obviously going to take the top spot and then I predict they'll lose first round if they do get out of group stage. I personally love Taylor Swift, I think she has a great voice and I actually have both of her albums. But I can understand why people think why it's ridiculous that this new teeny-bopper pop stuff has gotten so huge.
ReplyDeleteI personally love the World Cup way more, but I still watch the Olympics. Also I remember, that the number of attacks in Iraq and Afghanistan decreased during the last world cup, which I thought was interesting
ReplyDeleteOh weekends...If you have anything you're required to do on Saturday it feels like you had no weekend at all. It's not right.
